TL;DR: Booster is my pick if you want SEO on autopilot ($39/month). TinySEO is the best value for image-heavy stores ($14/month). Webrex has the best free schema plan, and Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO is the premium schema choice ($399/year). Most stores pay $0 to $69 a month. Before paying, check what your theme already outputs. Shopify handles sitemaps, canonicals, and basic product schema for free.

Most Shopify SEO apps sell you things Shopify already does. That is the problem with picking one from the App Store top list.
The stakes are higher now. A Pew Research Center study of 900 U.S. adults found people clicked a regular result on 8% of Google visits with an AI summary, versus 15% without one. Fewer clicks means the clicks you do get matter more. Clean structured data and fast product pages help you earn them.
So this guide asks two questions. What does Shopify do natively? And where do you need an app, like extra schema, image compression, redirects, and AI meta tags at scale?
I compared 10 apps using their Shopify App Store listings. I recorded every plan, price, rating, and review count on November 1, 2026. I also read seven competing guides to find what they missed.
If you are still building your full app stack, start with our guide to the best Shopify apps for growing stores, then come back here for the SEO layer.
What Is the Best Shopify SEO App?
Booster AI SEO + AEO Optimizer is the best Shopify SEO app for most stores, because its $39 Pro plan automates meta tags, structured data, sitemap submission, and broken link fixes. If images are your main issue, TinySEO costs less. If you only need schema, Webrex is free to start.
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Free plan or trial | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Booster AI SEO + AEO Optimizer | Hands-off SEO automation | $39/month | Free plan, 14-day trial | 4.8 stars, 5,477 reviews |
| Tiny SEO Speed Image Optimizer | Image-heavy stores on a budget | $14/month | Free plan, 7-day trial | 5.0 stars, 2,573 reviews |
| Avada AI SEO Image Optimizer | All-in-one SEO and speed | $34.95/month | Free plan, 7-day trial | 4.9 stars, 4,687 reviews |
| Smart SEO (Sherpas) | Cheapest full paid tier | $14.99/month | Free plan, 7-day trial | 5.0 stars, 961 reviews |
| Webrex: AI SEO, Schema JSON-LD | Free product schema | $9.99/month | Free plan, 14-day trial | 4.9 stars, 848 reviews |
| Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO | Premium schema and Merchant Center | $399/year | 7-day trial | 4.9 stars, 440 reviews |
| SearchPie: AI SEO & Schema | AI search basics on a free plan | $39/month | Free plan, 7-day trial | 4.9 stars, 2,453 reviews |
| Plug in SEO | Audits and keyword research | $4.99/month | 7-day trial | 4.6 stars, 677 reviews |
| SEO Manager (venntov) | Redirects and 404 control | $9/month | 7-day trial | 4.6 stars, 489 reviews |
| Yoast SEO for Shopify | Content teams and AI visibility tracking | $19/month | 14-day trial | 4.3 stars, 175 reviews |

How Much Do Shopify SEO Apps Cost?
Most Shopify SEO apps cost $0 to $69 a month, and almost every one has a free plan or a 7 to 14 day trial. Top tiers run $79.99 to $99 a month. The real cost depends on the pricing unit: images optimized, pages scanned, or AI credits. Annual billing saves 17% to 30%.
| App | Plan | Monthly price | Annual price | Main limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Booster | Free / Pro / Premium | $0 / $39 / $69 | Pro $349, Premium $619 | Free syncs 50 images a week; image compression only on Premium (5GB a month) |
| TinySEO | Free / Beginner / Advanced / Expert | $0 / $14 / $23 / $49 | $140 / $230 / $490 | 50 / 1,500 / 5,000 / 15,000 images a month; extras 2¢, 1¢, 0.8¢ each |
| Avada | Free / Pro / Enterprise | $0 / $34.95 / $99 | Pro $348, Enterprise $990 | Free: 100 image uses, 20 audits, 100 AI credits |
| Smart SEO | Free / Pro / Business / Premium | $0 / $14.99 / $24.99 / $49.99 | $149.90 / $249.90 / $499.90 | Pro: 1,000 images, 200 AI generations |
| Webrex | Free / Growth / Pro | $0 / $9.99 / $29.99 | Growth $83.88, Pro $251.88 | Review and FAQ schema start on Growth |
| Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO | Annual Pro | Not offered monthly | $399 | No limits listed |
| SearchPie | Starter / Premium / Enterprise | $0 / $39 / $99 | $374.40 / $950.40 | Unlimited image compression only on Enterprise |
| Plug in SEO | Starter / Lite / Standard / Premium | $4.99 / $29.99 / $49.99 / $79.99 | Not published | 30 / 200 / 2,000 / unlimited pages scanned |
| SEO Manager | Starter / Essential / Professional | $9 / $29 / $59 | Not published | Out-of-stock redirects start on Essential |
| Yoast SEO | Premium / AI+ | $19 / $45 | $190 / $450 | No usage limits listed |
Watch for these pricing traps:
- Usage overages. TinySEO bills extra images per image on top of the plan, every 30 days.
- Feature walls. Booster’s Pro plan does not include image compression. You need Premium at $69 a month for that.
- Trial quotas. Smart SEO’s 7-day trial runs on lower quotas (50 images, 20 AI generations) than the paid plan.
- Stacking. Many stores pair an image app with a schema app. Two subscriptions can cost more than one bigger plan.
- Leftover code. Shopify warns that some apps add theme code that is not removed when you uninstall. Cleanup can mean paying a developer.
Here is what that looks like at real volumes. These are estimates based on listed prices.
| Scenario | Option | Math | Estimated monthly cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3,000 images to compress in month one | TinySEO Beginner | $14 + (1,500 extra x $0.02) | $44 |
| 3,000 images to compress in month one | TinySEO Advanced | $23, 5,000 images included | $23 |
| Images plus schema, two apps | TinySEO Beginner + Webrex Growth | $14 + $9.99 | $23.99 |
| Images plus schema, one app | Booster Premium | $69 | $69 |
| Autopilot SEO, paid yearly | Booster Pro annual | $349 / 12 (vs $39 x 12 = $468) | About $29.08 |
In the first scenario, the $23 plan beats the $14 plan. Price plans against your image count.
The 10 Best Shopify SEO Apps, Reviewed
1 Booster AI SEO + AEO Optimizer: Best for Hands-Off SEO Automation
Booster is the most-reviewed SEO app here, built to run in the background.
What it does well. Booster’s Pro plan fixes meta titles and descriptions with templates, adds rich snippets and structured data, and submits your sitemap to Google on its own. It also detects broken links and fixes them automatically. It holds 4.8 stars from 5,477 reviews and carries the Built for Shopify badge.
Key features:
- Auto-pilot SEO fixes and monitoring on Pro
- Meta tag templates for products, collections, and pages
- Structured data and automated Google sitemap submission
Pricing. Free plan. Pro is $39 a month or $349 a year. Premium is $69 a month or $619 a year. Both paid plans have a 14-day trial. See Booster pricing.
Best for: You, if you have hundreds of products and no time to write meta tags by hand.
Limitations. Image compression sits on Premium only. A recent review on the listing says uninstalling left theme code changes behind, and the developer said Shopify’s uninstall rules stop it from restoring theme code automatically. Back up your theme first.
2 Tiny SEO Speed Image Optimizer: Best Value for Image-Heavy Stores
TinySEO (formerly TinyIMG) is an image and speed app that grew into a full SEO suite.
What it does well. It has a perfect 5.0 rating from 2,573 reviews. Plans are priced by images optimized per month, a clear pricing unit. The Beginner plan already adds JSON-LD for return policy and shipping details. Google uses that kind of data in its merchant listing experiences, such as product snippets and the shopping knowledge panel.
Key features:
- Image compression, resizing, ALT text, and SEO filenames
- Lazy loading, asset preloading, and CSS and JS minification
- 404 detection, redirects, and auto-redirects on product deletion (Expert)
Pricing. Free plan with 50 images a month. Beginner is $14 a month (1,500 images), Advanced $23 (5,000), and Expert $49 (15,000). Annual plans save 17%. Extra images cost 2¢, 1¢, or 0.8¢ each by plan. See TinySEO pricing.
Best for: You, if product photos are slowing your pages and you want SEO fixes in the same app.
Limitations. Overage charges can surprise you during a big first import. AI metadata generation does not start until the $23 Advanced plan.
3 Avada AI SEO Image Optimizer: Best All-in-One SEO and Speed Suite
Avada combines on-page SEO, image optimization, and speed tools in one app.
What it does well. Avada and Booster are the two most-reviewed apps here. Avada holds 4.9 stars from 4,687 reviews. Its free plan is generous: an HTML sitemap, meta tags, 20 on-page audits, 100 image optimizer uses, and basic Google structured data. Pro removes the image cap.
Key features:
- AI SEO audit agent that scans pages for issues
- Unlimited image optimizer on Pro
- Broken link manager, URL optimization, and breadcrumbs
Pricing. Free plan. Pro is $34.95 a month or $348 a year. Enterprise is $99 a month or $990 a year. Paid plans have a 7-day trial. See Avada pricing.
Best for: You, if you want unlimited image compression and SEO fixes for under $35 a month.
Limitations. Shopify already generates your XML sitemap and robots.txt, so those features add little. Editing robots.txt is risky. Shopify itself says incorrect robots.txt edits can cause a loss of all traffic.
4 Smart SEO by Sherpas: Best Budget Paid Plan
Smart SEO, now listed as Smart SEO AI & Image Optimizer, is a meta tag and schema app with a cheap entry tier.
What it does well. It has 5.0 stars from 961 reviews. Pro at $14.99 a month includes JSON-LD, bulk meta and alt tags, bulk image optimization, IndexNow, and 404 hit detection.
Key features:
- AI meta tags, alt text, and product descriptions
- JSON-LD structured data and noindex controls
- Broken link checks and a backlinks report (Business)
Pricing. Free plan. Pro $14.99 a month, Business $24.99, Premium $49.99. Annual plans cost $149.90, $249.90, and $499.90. See Smart SEO pricing.
Best for: You, if you want bulk meta tags and schema for under $15 a month.
Limitations. Pro caps you at 200 AI generations and 1,000 images. The trial uses smaller quotas, so it is hard to judge bulk results before you pay.
5 Webrex: Best Free Schema App
Webrex does one job: JSON-LD structured data.
What it does well. Its free plan covers unlimited product schema, including every variant, plus Organization, Local Business, Breadcrumb, and Article schema. Google’s product variant markup guide says variant data makes products eligible to show variant details in merchant listings. Webrex holds 4.9 stars from 848 reviews.
Key features:
- Unlimited product and variant schema on the free plan
- Review schema for Judge.me, Loox, and 35+ apps (Growth)
- FAQ, Recipe, and Video schema (Growth)
Pricing. Free plan. Growth is $9.99 a month or $83.88 a year. Pro is $29.99 a month or $251.88 a year. Both have a 14-day trial. See Webrex pricing.
Best for: You, if your theme’s schema is thin and you want review stars in search for $9.99 a month.
Limitations. It does not compress images or write meta tags. Duplicate schema removal, a common problem when themes and apps both output markup, sits on the $29.99 Pro plan.
6 Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO: Best Premium Schema App
Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO is the longest-running schema app here. It launched on October 20, 2015.
What it does well. It covers products, reviews, blogs, breadcrumbs, FAQs, video, recipes, and loyalty markup. It maps the schema fields Google Merchant Center needs, with or without a feed. It works with 20+ review apps. It holds 4.9 stars from 440 reviews.
Key features:
- Expanded Schema.org markup across products, blogs, and the homepage
- Merchant Center compatibility
- Ongoing rich results monitoring and a structured data audit
Pricing. One plan: Annual Pro at $399 a year, with a 7-day trial. No monthly option is listed. See JSON-LD for SEO pricing.
Best for: You, if you run Google Shopping ads or sell in several markets and want schema handled by a specialist.
Limitations. $399 upfront is steep for a new store. It does not carry the Built for Shopify badge on its listing.
7 SearchPie: Best Free Plan for AI Search Basics
SearchPie, now listed as SearchPie: AI SEO & Schema, packs a lot into its free Starter plan.
What it does well. Starter includes store schema, image compression, bulk meta and ALT templates, AI SEO tags, IndexNow, and 404 detection. Premium adds price, rating, stock, and FAQ schema. It has 4.9 stars from 2,453 reviews.
Key features:
- AI readiness monitoring on the free plan
- FAQ and rating schema on Premium
- Automatic 404 and broken link fixes on Premium
Pricing. Starter is free. Premium is $39 a month or $374.40 a year. Enterprise is $99 a month or $950.40 a year. Both paid plans have a 7-day trial. See SearchPie pricing.
Best for: You, if you want a capable free plan and may upgrade later.
Limitations. The jump from free to $39 is big. Unlimited image compression and keyword tracking sit on the $99 tier.
8 Plug in SEO: Best for Audits and Keyword Research
Plug in SEO, by Plug in Useful, is an audit-first app with built-in keyword research.
What it does well. It flags missing tags and schema problems. Its Keyword Studio adds AI keyword research and search trends, which most apps here skip. It holds 4.6 stars from 677 reviews.
Key features:
- SEO audits that flag issues by page
- Keyword Studio for research and trends
- One-click broken link redirects
Pricing. Starter $4.99 a month (30 pages), Lite $29.99 (200 pages), Standard $49.99 (2,000 pages), Premium $79.99 (unlimited). Each has a 7-day trial. No annual pricing is listed. See Plug in SEO pricing.
Best for: You, if you want to know what to fix and which keywords to target, and you will do the edits yourself.
Limitations. There is no free plan. Starter scans only 30 pages and lacks title and description management.
9 SEO Manager by venntov: Best for Redirects and 404 Control
SEO Manager is one of the older meta and redirect tools on Shopify.
What it does well. Starter tracks broken links. Essential adds out-of-stock redirects. That matters because Shopify does not create a redirect for you when you delete a product. You set those up yourself in Shopify’s URL redirects tool. It holds 4.6 stars from 489 reviews.
Key features:
- Google result simulation for titles and descriptions
- 404 tracking and redirect tools
- Out-of-stock redirects on Essential
Pricing. Starter $9 a month, Essential $29, Professional $59. Each has a 7-day trial. Annual pricing is not published. See SEO Manager pricing.
Best for: You, if you rotate stock often and lose traffic to dead product URLs.
Limitations. No free plan and no Built for Shopify badge on the listing.
10 Yoast SEO for Shopify: Best for Content Teams Who Track AI Visibility
Yoast brings its WordPress-style on-page analysis to the Shopify product editor.
What it does well. Yoast scores SEO and readability as you write. It suggests AI titles and meta descriptions and adds structured data. AI+ adds an AI Visibility Index and citation tracking, which no other app here offers.
Key features:
- SEO and readability analysis in the editor
- Automatic structured data for products
- llms.txt generation
Pricing. Premium is $19 a month or $190 a year. AI+ is $45 a month or $450 a year. Both have a 14-day trial. See Yoast SEO pricing.
Best for: You, if your team writes a lot of product and blog copy and wants guidance while writing.
Limitations. It has the lowest rating here: 4.3 stars from 175 reviews. Two August 2026 reviews report theme problems after an update, which Yoast says it fixed. There is no free plan and no image compression.

Which Shopify SEO App Should You Pick?
Pick by your biggest gap, not by the longest feature list. If you lack time, Booster automates the most. If images are slow, TinySEO or Avada fix that. If rich results are missing, Webrex or Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO cover schema. If you lose traffic to deleted products, SEO Manager handles redirects.
| If you need… | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| SEO that runs itself | Booster Pro | Auto-pilot fixes for $39 a month |
| Cheap image compression | TinySEO Beginner | 1,500 images a month for $14, priced per image |
| Unlimited images in one suite | Avada Pro | Unlimited images for $34.95 a month |
| Bulk meta tags under $15 | Smart SEO Pro | Bulk meta, alt tags, and JSON-LD for $14.99 a month |
| Free product schema | Webrex Free | Unlimited product and variant schema at $0 |
| Merchant Center and multi-market schema | Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO | Merchant Center mapping, $399 a year |
| The most on a free plan | SearchPie Starter | Schema, compression, AI tags at $0 |
| Keyword research inside Shopify | Plug in SEO Lite | Keyword Studio and audits for $29.99 a month |
| Out-of-stock redirects | SEO Manager Essential | Redirects dead product URLs for $29 a month |
| AI citation tracking | Yoast AI+ | Citation tracking for $45 a month |
If you want to track AI citations beyond what Yoast offers, see our list of the best AI search visibility tools.
How Do You Choose a Shopify SEO App?

Choose a Shopify SEO app by first listing what Shopify and your theme already do, then paying only for the gaps. For most stores, those gaps are richer schema, image compression at scale, redirects for deleted products, and bulk meta tags. Then check the pricing unit, your Shopify setup, and how clean the uninstall is.
1. Start with what Shopify does for free
Here is the split, based on Shopify’s SEO overview and its developer docs.
| Task | Shopify natively | Where an app helps |
|---|---|---|
| XML sitemap | Yes. Generated and updated automatically | Auto-submission to Google, HTML sitemaps |
| robots.txt | Yes. Default file, editable via robots.txt.liquid | Rarely needed |
| Canonical tags | Yes. Auto-generated | Rarely needed |
| Product schema | Yes. Themes include basic product markup | Reviews, FAQ, shipping, returns, variants |
| Image format and size | Yes. The image_url filter picks WebP or AVIF by browser and resizes | Compressing originals, ALT text and filenames in bulk |
| Redirects | Manual. Up to 100,000 redirects, CSV import | Auto-redirects for deleted or out-of-stock products, 404 monitoring |
| Titles and meta descriptions | Editable one page at a time | Templates and AI writing in bulk |
Example: a 40-product store may need only a free schema app. A 4,000-product store needs bulk meta templates.
2. Check your theme’s schema before adding more
Run a product page through Google’s Rich Results Test. Two Product blocks means your theme and an app both output markup. Turn one off. Webrex Pro detects and removes duplicates for you.
3. Match the pricing unit to your catalog
TinySEO prices by images. Plug in SEO prices by pages scanned. Smart SEO and Avada meter AI credits. Example: a store with 900 products and three photos each has 2,700 images. TinySEO Advanced (5,000 images) at $23 covers that. Beginner would add overage fees.
4. Be realistic about AI search features
Many apps now sell llms.txt files and “AEO” features. Google says on its AI features guide that you do not need new machine-readable files, AI text files, or special schema to appear in AI Overviews. Accurate price and stock schema matters more than an llms.txt file. For broader AI work, compare the best AI SEO tools outside Shopify.
5. Plan the uninstall before you install
Some apps edit theme code that is not always removed on uninstall. Duplicate your theme before installing so you can roll back.
6. Measure results outside the app
App health scores are not rankings. Track real positions instead. Our guide to the best AI rank tracking software covers tools that also watch AI answers.
How We Researched This Guide
I checked every app’s Shopify App Store listing on November 1, 2026. I recorded plan names, monthly and annual prices, trial length, usage limits, rating, review count, and the Built for Shopify badge. I ranked apps on use-case fit, price at real volumes, free plan depth, rating, and review volume.
I reviewed seven competing guides that rank for this keyword. Most skipped prices, review counts, or pricing units. I also checked Shopify’s Help Center and developer docs, plus Google’s Search Central docs on merchant listings, variants, and AI features.
What I could not confirm: Booster’s older listing URL now says the app is not available, so I used its current listing. SEO Manager’s Essential plan text was cut off on the listing. Yoast and SEO Manager do not list usage limits. I could not verify the real speed impact of any app, or whether llms.txt files change AI citations.
We did not test these tools ourselves. No vendor pays to be listed or ranked. Read our editorial policy to learn how we pick and review tools.
Prices last checked: November 1, 2026.
The Bottom Line
Start free. Shopify already handles sitemaps, canonicals, robots.txt, and basic product schema. Pay only for the gap you can name.
Booster Pro at $39 a month is my top pick if you want SEO on autopilot. TinySEO is the best value for image-heavy stores from $14 a month. Avada Pro gives you unlimited images at $34.95. Webrex is the best free schema app, and Ilana’s JSON-LD for SEO is the specialist choice at $399 a year. SEO Manager fits stores with lots of dead product URLs.
Your next step: run one product page through Google’s Rich Results Test. Then start the free plan or trial of the app that fixes the gap, and check Search Console after 30 days.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Shopify have built-in SEO?
Yes. Shopify automatically generates your sitemap.xml and robots.txt files, adds canonical tags, and includes SSL. Themes output title tags and basic product schema. You can edit titles, meta descriptions, URLs, and image alt text yourself. What Shopify does not do is write meta tags in bulk, add review or FAQ schema, or redirect deleted products automatically.
Do I need an SEO app for my Shopify store?
Not always. A small store with a modern theme can do well with Shopify’s built-in features and careful manual edits. An app becomes worth it when you have hundreds of products, slow image-heavy pages, missing review stars in search, or frequent dead product URLs. Pay for the specific gap, and start on a free plan or trial.
What is the best free SEO app for Shopify?
Webrex has the best free plan for schema, with unlimited product and variant markup at $0. SearchPie’s free Starter plan covers the most ground, including image compression, AI SEO tags, and 404 detection. Avada’s free plan suits stores that want audits and some image optimization. All three hold 4.9 stars on the Shopify App Store as of November 1, 2026.
Do Shopify SEO apps slow down your store?
They can. Apps that load extra scripts or edit theme code add weight to your pages. Image and speed apps like TinySEO and Avada aim to do the opposite by compressing images and minifying code. Shopify also warns that some apps leave code behind after you uninstall them. Duplicate your theme before installing so you can roll back cleanly.
Will an SEO app help my store appear in Google AI Overviews?
Only indirectly. Google says there are no extra requirements, special schema, or AI text files needed to appear in AI Overviews. Your pages must be indexed and eligible for a normal snippet. An SEO app helps when it fixes real basics, like accurate product schema, broken links, and missing meta tags. An llms.txt file alone is not a reason to pay.
