Best Shopify Apps: 10 Must-Haves and What They Really Cost

Best Shopify Apps
Why you can trust this guide: we take every price straight from the vendor website, we tell you when a price is not published, and no vendor pays to be listed or ranked. Some links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. How we make money.

TL;DR: For most stores, the best Shopify apps are Klaviyo for email and SMS, Judge.me for reviews, Smart SEO for SEO, ReConvert for post-purchase upsells, Appstle for subscriptions, and Gorgias for support. Eight of my ten picks have a free plan. A lean stack costs $0 to $25 a month. A growing store pays about $230. Before you pay, check the pricing unit: orders, contacts, tickets, or revenue.

Quick answer card: the best shopify apps by use case and starting price.

Most “best Shopify apps” lists throw 30 to 50 apps at you. That is how stores end up with overlapping tools, slow pages, and bills they cannot explain.

Most stores need far fewer. A June 2026 Hyperspeed study of 400+ storefronts found the average store runs 5.94 detectable apps, with a median of 4. Big stores run more. A September 2026 Koala Apps report on 300 high-traffic stores put the median at 14.

So I built this guide around jobs, not app counts. I picked one app for each core job a Shopify store has to do. Then I checked every price, limit, rating, and review count on the Shopify App Store on November 1, 2026.

The angle most guides miss is the pricing unit. One app bills by orders. Another bills by contacts, tickets, or subscription revenue. That decides what you pay once your store grows.

If you are still building out the rest of your tool stack, see our guide to the best business software for small and growing companies.

How Much Do the Best Shopify Apps Cost?

The best Shopify apps cost $0 to about $25 a month each at the entry level, and eight of these ten have a free plan. Costs climb with your volume. A growing store doing a few hundred orders a month should budget around $230 a month for a full ten-job stack, based on listed prices.

App Plan Price Billing Main limit
Klaviyo Free / Email / SMS $0 / $20 / $15 Every 30 days Free: 250 profiles, 500 emails. Email: 251-500 contacts. SMS: 1,250 credits
Judge.me Free / Awesome $0 / $15 Every 30 days Free: unlimited reviews
Smart SEO Free / Pro / Business / Premium $0 / $14.99 / $24.99 / $49.99 Monthly, or yearly at $149.90 / $249.90 / $499.90 Free: 50 images, 20 AI generations, 20-page audit
ReConvert Free / Growth tiers $0 / $9.99 / $19.99 / $39.99 Every 30 days Up to 50, 51-100, 101-200, 201-500 orders
Appstle Free / Starter / Business / Business Premium $0 / $10 / $30 / $100 Monthly, or yearly at $96 / $288 / $960 $500 / $5,000 / $15,000 / $100,000 monthly subscription revenue
PageFly Free / Builder / Accelerate / Enterprise $0 / $24 / $99 / $299 Monthly; Accelerate also $990/year 1 page / from 5 pages / unlimited / unlimited
DSers Basic / Advanced / Pro $0 / $19.90 / $49.90 Monthly, or yearly at $190.80 / $478.80 No caps listed; extra fees above a usage limit
ShipStation Starter / Standard / Premium $14.99 / $29.99 / $349.99 Every 30 days 3 / 10 / 15 users; price varies by region and order volume
Gorgias Starter / Basic / Pro / Advanced $10 / $60 / $360 / $900 Monthly; Basic and up save 17% yearly 50 / 300 / 2,000 / 5,000 tickets a month
Smile Free / Essential / Standard / Growth $0 / $15 / $79 / $199 Every 30 days 200 / 500 / 1,000 / 2,500 orders a month

Here are the pricing traps I found while checking the listings:

  • Order-based tiers move with your sales. ReConvert, Smile, and Loox all price by monthly orders. A holiday spike can bump your tier.
  • Ticket overages add up fast. Gorgias Starter includes 50 tickets, then $0.40 each. At 150 tickets, that is $10 + (100 x $0.40) = $50, close to the $60 Basic plan with 300 tickets.
  • Some apps bill outside Shopify. Klaviyo, Recharge, and ShipStation may bill some charges directly. Shopify’s help center says uninstalling an app does not cancel external charges.
  • Uninstalling does not always clean up. Shopify says some apps leave theme code behind, which can slow your store.
  • Subscription apps can take a cut. Recharge Starter costs $99 a month plus 1.49% + 19 cents per transaction. Appstle lists a 0% transaction fee on its paid plans.
Scenario (estimate based on listed prices) Apps and plans Monthly total
New store: under 50 orders and 250 contacts a month Free plans for seven apps, plus Gorgias Starter ($10) and ShipStation Starter ($14.99) $10 + $14.99 = $24.99
Growing store: about 400 orders a month, up to 500 contacts Klaviyo Email ($20), Judge.me Awesome ($15), Smart SEO Pro ($14.99), ReConvert 201-500 ($39.99), Appstle Starter ($10), PageFly Builder ($24), ShipStation Standard ($29.99), Gorgias Basic ($60), Smile Essential ($15) $20 + $15 + $14.99 + $39.99 + $10 + $24 + $29.99 + $60 + $15 = $228.97
Subscription math: $3,000 a month in subscription revenue across 100 orders Recharge Starter: $99 + (1.49% x $3,000 = $44.70) + (100 x $0.19 = $19). Appstle Starter: $10, 0% fee Recharge about $162.70 vs Appstle $10

One caveat: Klaviyo’s listing only publishes prices up to 500 contacts, and a 400-order store likely has a bigger list. Klaviyo’s pricing page uses a plan builder for higher counts, so treat that line as a floor.

The 10 Best Shopify Apps, Reviewed

1 Klaviyo: Best for Email and SMS Marketing

Klaviyo is an email and SMS marketing platform built around your Shopify customer and order data.

What it does well. Klaviyo turns store data into automated flows. Shoppers leave a lot of carts behind. Baymard Institute puts the average documented cart abandonment rate at 70.22%, based on 50 studies. Guided setup builds your first flows for you.

Key features:

  • Email and SMS campaigns with AI-assisted content
  • Segmentation, automated flows, and multi-channel A/B testing
  • Predictive analytics, send-time optimization, and product recommendations

Pricing. Free up to 250 active profiles and 500 emails a month. Email is $20 a month for 251-500 contacts. SMS is $15 a month for 1,250 credits, carrier fees included. Prices above 500 contacts are not published on the listing. See Klaviyo pricing.

Best for: You, if email is (or will be) your biggest owned sales channel and you want flows that react to what customers buy.

Limitations. Klaviyo bills by active profiles, so a bigger list means a bigger bill. For basic newsletters, Shopify’s own Shopify Messaging app gives you 10,000 free emails a month, then $1 per 1,000. For more options, see our guide to the best AI email marketing software.

2 Judge.me: Best for Product Reviews

Judge.me is a review app that collects and displays customer reviews, photos, and videos.

What it does well. Judge.me has the most generous free plan of any app on this list. You get unlimited photo and video reviews, Google rich snippets, and a review importer at $0. It holds a 5.0 rating from 49,401 reviews. Koala’s report found it is the most installed app in its tracked stores.

Key features:

  • Review requests by email, SMS, push, QR code, and forms, with auto-reminders on paid plans
  • Star badges, carousels, Q&A, and review filtering
  • Sync to Google, Meta, and the Shop App

Pricing. Free forever. The Awesome plan is $15 a month, billed every 30 days, with a 15-day trial. It adds AI replies, 130+ integrations, and full design control. See Judge.me pricing.

Best for: You, if you want social proof on every product page without a monthly bill on day one.

Limitations. The default widgets look plain until you pay for design control. Loox is the main rival, with a more visual look. But its Convert plan costs $49.99 a month for 300 orders, plus $50 per extra 300.

3 Smart SEO: Best for On-Page SEO

Smart SEO AI & Image Optimizer, by Sherpas Design, automates core on-page SEO.

What it does well. Smart SEO writes meta tags and alt text in bulk, adds structured data, and compresses images. It also builds an LLMs.txt catalog to help AI assistants find your products. It holds a 5.0 rating from 961 reviews.

Key features:

  • Meta tags, alt tags, sitemap, and noindex control on the free plan
  • JSON-LD structured data, Google Search Console link, and IndexNow on Pro
  • Bulk image optimization and broken link checks

Pricing. Free plan with 50 image optimizations, 20 AI generations, and a 20-page audit. Pro is $14.99 a month ($149.90 a year). Business is $24.99 ($249.90 a year). Premium is $49.99 ($499.90 a year). Paid plans have a 7-day trial. See Smart SEO pricing.

Best for: You, if you have dozens or hundreds of products missing meta descriptions and alt text.

Limitations. It fixes technical basics, not keyword research or content. AI quotas on lower plans are small for big catalogs. Pair it with one of the best AI SEO tools to rank content too.

4 ReConvert: Best for Post-Purchase Upsells

ReConvert, now run by Upsell.com, adds upsell and cross-sell offers on product, cart, and post-purchase pages.

What it does well. ReConvert is known for one-click post-purchase upsells. Buyers can add the offer without re-entering payment details. It holds a 4.8 rating from 3,126 reviews. Rebuy, which several big guides recommend, now shows “not currently available on the Shopify App Store” on its listing.

Key features:

  • One-click post-purchase upsell funnels
  • AI product recommendations, bundles, and quantity breaks
  • Drag-and-drop editor with A/B testing

Pricing. Free up to 50 orders or $50 in upsell revenue. Growth tiers are $9.99 a month for 51-100 orders, $19.99 for 101-200, and $39.99 for 201-500. Paid tiers include a 14-day trial. See ReConvert pricing.

Best for: You, if you want to raise average order value with offers shown right after the sale.

Limitations. The listing states that checkout upsells need Shopify Plus. Pricing scales with store orders.

5 Appstle Subscriptions: Best for Subscriptions

Appstle Subscriptions lets you sell recurring orders, prepaid plans, and subscription boxes.

What it does well. Appstle charges a flat monthly fee with a 0% transaction fee on paid plans. It holds a 5.0 rating from 9,163 reviews. The free plan already includes payment retry, a customer portal, and churn control.

Key features:

  • Pay-as-you-go and prepaid subscriptions with multiple frequencies
  • Build-a-box, bundles, and cancellation controls on Business
  • Product swaps and order unification on Business Premium

Best for: You, if you sell consumables like coffee, supplements, or pet food and want to keep more of each renewal.

Limitations. Plans are capped by subscription revenue. Recharge is the main rival, with a 4.8 rating from 3,149 reviews, but Recharge’s pricing page lists Starter at $99 a month plus 1.49% + 19 cents per transaction.

6 PageFly: Best Page Builder

PageFly is a drag-and-drop and AI page builder for Shopify.

What it does well. PageFly lets you build custom pages without touching theme code, using 320+ templates or an AI builder. It holds a 4.9 rating from 5,918 reviews and is the fifth most installed app in Koala’s tracked set.

Key features:

  • 320+ page and section templates
  • AI page builder plus a visual drag-and-drop editor
  • A/B testing, click heatmaps, and AI Page Checkup on Accelerate

Pricing. Free with 1 published page or section and 10 AI credits a month. Builder is $24 a month for 5 published slots, with extra slots at $5 per 5. Accelerate is $99 a month or $990 a year for unlimited pages. Enterprise is $299. See PageFly pricing.

Best for: You, if you run paid ads and need dedicated landing pages your theme cannot build.

Limitations. The free plan only publishes one page. A/B testing is locked to the $99 plan. Still choosing a platform? See the best AI website builders.

7 DSers: Best for Dropshipping

DSers is a dropshipping app that imports products from AliExpress and 1688 and places supplier orders in bulk.

What it does well. DSers imports products in one click, applies pricing rules, and sends supplier orders in bulk. Tracking numbers sync back to your store. It holds a 5.0 rating from 6,428 reviews, and the Basic plan is free.

Key features:

  • One-click product import and auto-pricing
  • Bulk ordering to AliExpress, 1688, and agents
  • Stock, price, and cost-change sync with alerts on Advanced

Pricing. Basic is free. Advanced is $19.90 a month ($190.80 a year) with a 14-day trial. Pro is $49.90 a month ($478.80 a year). The listing notes extra fees if product volume goes past a plan’s usage limit, but does not publish that limit. See DSers pricing.

Best for: You, if you sell products you never stock and source from AliExpress.

Limitations. It is built around AliExpress and 1688, so it does not fit US suppliers or print-on-demand.

8 ShipStation: Best for Shipping Your Own Inventory

ShipStation is a shipping tool that prints labels and compares carrier rates.

What it does well. ShipStation is the pick for stores that pack their own boxes. It compares rates across 200+ carriers, prints labels in bulk, and syncs orders from TikTok Shop, Amazon, and Walmart. Zapier’s Shopify apps guide quotes a merchant who says it saves his team about two hours a day.

Key features:

  • Automated rate shopping and bulk label printing
  • Automation rules to batch, tag, and route orders
  • Branded tracking pages and a returns portal

Pricing. Starter is $14.99 a month for 3 users. Standard is $29.99 for 10 users. Premium is $349.99 for 15 users. Each has a 30-day trial. Pricing varies by region and order volume. See ShipStation pricing.

Best for: You, if you ship more than a handful of orders a day and sell on more than one channel.

Limitations. Its App Store rating is 4.2 from 710 reviews, the lowest on this list, with 131 one-star reviews. If stock is your bigger headache, look at the best AI inventory management software.

9 Gorgias: Best for Customer Support

Gorgias is an ecommerce helpdesk that puts every support channel in one inbox.

What it does well. Gorgias shows Shopify order data next to each ticket. Agents can edit, refund, or cancel orders inside the ticket. Its AI Agent answers common order questions. Basic and up include unlimited agents.

Key features:

  • Unified inbox for email, chat, SMS, social, and voice
  • Shopify-native order actions
  • Rules, macros, and auto-tagging

Pricing. Starter is $10 a month with 3 agents and 50 tickets, then $0.40 per extra ticket. Basic is $60 a month ($600 a year) with unlimited agents and 300 tickets. Pro is $360 ($3,600 a year) with 2,000 tickets. Advanced is $900 ($9,000 a year) with 5,000 tickets. Each plan has a 7-day trial. The AI Agent per-resolution rate is not published. See Gorgias pricing.

Best for: You, if your inbox is filling with “where is my order” questions

Limitations. Its rating is 4.3 from 707 reviews, and 10% of ratings are one star. The jump from Basic ($60) to Pro ($360) is steep. A shipping delay can spike tickets and your bill.

10 Smile: Best for Loyalty and Rewards

Smile is a loyalty app that runs points, referrals, and VIP tiers for Shopify stores.

What it does well. Smile brings buyers back with points and referral rewards, both on the free plan. It holds a 4.9 rating from 4,654 reviews and works with Shopify POS.

Key features:

  • Points, rewards, and referral programs
  • VIP tiers and points expiry on Growth
  • Loyalty pages in customer accounts

Pricing. Free up to 200 orders a month. Essential is $15 a month up to 500 orders. Standard is $79 up to 1,000 orders. Growth is $199 with 2,500 orders included, then $20 per extra 100. Paid plans have a 14-day trial. See Smile pricing.

Best for: You, if customers buy from you again and again.

Limitations. VIP tiers, a key loyalty feature, start on the $199 Growth plan. Redeeming points at checkout needs Shopify Plus.

How to Choose Shopify Apps

Buyer's checklist: 5 things to check before you pay for shopify apps.

Choose Shopify apps by matching each one to a single job, checking its pricing unit against your volume, and confirming it will not slow your store. Read each listing’s plan limits, not just the starting price, and check for Shopify Plus requirements.

  1. Find the pricing unit. Klaviyo bills by active profiles, ReConvert and Smile by orders, Gorgias by tickets, and Appstle by subscription revenue. Example: Smile is free up to 200 orders, but a store with 600 orders a month needs the $79 Standard plan.
  2. Check for the Built for Shopify badge. Shopify’s Built for Shopify requirements say an app must not reduce your storefront Lighthouse performance score by more than 10 points. Example: Judge.me, Smart SEO, Appstle, and Smile show the badge.
  3. Avoid overlap. Two apps on one job means double scripts and bills. Example: Judge.me and Loox both collect photo reviews. Run one, not both.
  4. Check Shopify Plus gates. Example: ReConvert’s listing says checkout upsells need Shopify Plus, and Smile’s checkout redemption needs Plus too.
  5. Read the one-star reviews. Example: ShipStation has a 4.2 rating, but 131 of its 710 reviews are one star.
  6. Plan your exit. Shopify warns that some apps leave theme code behind and some bill outside Shopify. Example: if Klaviyo bills you directly, cancel inside Klaviyo, since uninstalling does not stop external charges.

How We Researched This Guide

I started by reviewing the top-ranking “best Shopify apps” guides in Google. I read five competitor guides in full and noted which apps they share and what they miss. Most gave a starting price but no plan limits.

I then picked one app per core job. For each pick, I checked its official Shopify App Store listing on November 1, 2026, for plan names, prices, billing periods, limits, rating, and review count. I also checked vendor pricing pages. Usage data comes from two independent 2026 studies and Baymard Institute.

Some details could not be confirmed. Klaviyo does not publish prices above 500 contacts on its listing. Gorgias does not publish its AI Agent per-resolution rate. DSers does not publish its usage limit. Rebuy is not currently available on the App Store, so I did not rank it.

We did not test these tools ourselves. No vendor pays to be listed or ranked. Read our editorial policy to learn how we pick and review tools.

Prices last checked: November 1, 2026.

The Bottom Line

You do not need 30 apps. You need one good app per job. Start with Judge.me for reviews and Klaviyo for email. Both have free plans. Add Smart SEO to fix your product pages and ReConvert to lift order value.

Once orders are steady, add Gorgias for support and Smile for loyalty. Use Appstle if you sell subscriptions, DSers if you dropship, and ShipStation if you pack your own boxes. Add PageFly when ads need custom landing pages.

Your next step: list your store’s jobs, install the free plan for each gap, and check your bill after 30 days. Still picking a platform? Compare the best ecommerce hosting options before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What apps should every Shopify store have?

Every Shopify store should have a review app and an email marketing app. Reviews build trust on product pages, and email recovers abandoned checkouts. Judge.me and Klaviyo both have free plans, which makes them easy starting points. Add an SEO app like Smart SEO next. Upsell, support, and loyalty apps can wait until you have steady orders.

How many apps should a Shopify store have?

There is no fixed number, but most stores run far fewer apps than you might expect. A June 2026 Hyperspeed study found a median of 4 detectable apps per store. A September 2026 Koala Apps report found a median of 14 among high-traffic stores. Aim for one app per job, and remove any app you no longer use.

Do Shopify apps slow down your store?

Yes, some Shopify apps can slow your store, because many add scripts to your theme. Shopify’s Built for Shopify program requires apps not to cut your storefront Lighthouse score by more than 10 points. Prefer apps with that badge. Also remove leftover theme code after uninstalling, since Shopify says some apps do not clean it up automatically.

Are free Shopify apps worth using?

Yes, many free Shopify apps are worth using, especially for new stores. Judge.me’s free plan includes unlimited reviews. Klaviyo is free up to 250 active profiles. ReConvert is free up to 50 orders, and Smile is free up to 200 orders a month. Just check each free plan’s limit, because you will need to upgrade as you grow.

Do Shopify apps keep charging you after you uninstall them?

Uninstalling a Shopify app cancels its future recurring Shopify charges, but not always everything. Shopify says you may still be billed for the current cycle. Apps that bill outside Shopify, such as some Klaviyo charges, keep billing until you cancel inside the app. Check the app’s own billing settings before you uninstall it.
