Best QuillBot Alternatives: 8 Paraphrasing Tools With Real Prices

Best QuillBot Alternatives compared on paraphrasing tools with real prices and free limits, from Wordtune and Spinbot to ChatGPT and Claude.
Why you can trust this guide: we take every price straight from the vendor website, we tell you when a price is not published, and no vendor pays to be listed or ranked. Some links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. How we make money.

The best QuillBot alternative for most people is Wordtune, because it rewrites and changes tone for $6.99 a month, or $4.89 a month on yearly billing. If you want free, use Spinbot, which rewrites up to 1,000 words with no sign-up. For many paraphrase modes on a small budget, pick Paraphraser.io. For custom rewrites, use ChatGPT or Claude.

Quick answer card: Wordtune is the best QuillBot alternative for most people, with Spinbot free, Paraphraser.io for modes and ChatGPT or Claude.

Here is why so many people look around. QuillBot’s free plan only paraphrases 100 words at a time, in 2 modes. Premium costs $19.95 a month if you pay monthly. And QuillBot does not offer a standard money-back guarantee. So it makes sense to check what else is out there before you pay.

This guide sticks to paraphrasing and rewriting tools, not full grammar checkers. I pulled every price below from each company’s own pricing page in October 2026. Prices can change, and some tools show local currency at checkout, so check the final price before you pay.

Why People Look for a QuillBot Alternative

Most people switch because of limits and cost. QuillBot’s free plan paraphrases only 100 words at a time in 2 modes. Premium is $19.95 a month on monthly billing, and refunds are only given where the law requires them. If you only need quick rewrites, a cheaper or free tool often does the job.

QuillBot is still a good tool. Premium gives you unlimited paraphrasing in 9 modes, plus custom modes you build yourself. It adds 6,000-word summaries and 25,000 words of plagiarism checks each month. If you pay yearly, it works out to $8.33 a month. There is also a 3-month plan at $39.95. You can even pause your plan when you don’t need it (QuillBot’s price page).

The weak spot is refunds. QuillBot’s help center says refunds are issued only if required by law. Buyers in the EU and UK get a 14-day right to withdraw (source). If you are not sure you will like it, test a tool with a clear free plan or trial first.

What Makes the Best QuillBot Alternative?

The best QuillBot alternative keeps your meaning, lets you pick a tone or mode, and gives you enough free words to test it on real text. Check five things. How many words can you paste at once? How many modes or tones do you get? What does it cost on monthly and yearly billing? Does it work where you write? And can you get a refund?

We compared each tool on those five points using its own pricing and feature pages. We also read the top-ranking lists of QuillBot alternatives. Some show old prices. One big list still shows Wordtune at $13.99 a month, but Wordtune’s pricing page now shows $6.99. We only list prices we could see on the vendor’s own site.

If what you really want is a full grammar and style checker, read our guide to Grammarly alternatives instead. This page is for rewriting.

QuillBot alternatives by use case: Wordtune overall, Spinbot free with no sign-up, Paraphraser.io for many modes, ChatGPT for custom rewrites.

Best Overall QuillBot Alternative

Wordtune is the best overall QuillBot alternative. You highlight a sentence and it gives you new ways to say it, in a casual or formal tone, shorter or longer. The free plan gives you 10 rewrites a day. Advanced costs $4.89 a month on yearly billing, less than QuillBot’s $8.33.

1 Wordtune: Best for cheap, natural rewrites

If you mostly rewrite emails, posts and single sentences, Wordtune does it for less.

What it does well. Wordtune works one sentence at a time, right where you type. You pick a rewrite from a short list, so you stay in control of the words. You can make text more formal or more casual. You can also make it shorter or longer. It can sum up documents, web pages and videos too.

Key features:

  • Rewrite and paraphrase suggestions
  • Formal or casual tone in one click
  • Shorten or expand text
  • Summaries of text and videos
  • Works in Chrome, Edge, Google Docs, Word and on iPhone

Pricing. The free plan gives you 10 rewrites a day and 3 summaries a month, plus unlimited spelling and grammar checks. Advanced is $6.99 a month, or $4.89 a month billed yearly, with 30 rewrites a day and 15 summaries a month. Unlimited is $9.99 a month, or $6.99 a month billed yearly. Paid plans have a 3-day free trial, but you need to add a payment method. Wordtune does not give refunds, but you can cancel before your next bill. Students with a .edu email get 30% off. See Wordtune pricing.

Best for: You, if you want better-sounding sentences every day and don’t want to pay QuillBot prices.

Limitations. It is built for sentences, not whole essays at once. The daily caps on the free and Advanced plans can run out fast. And there is no plagiarism checker, which QuillBot Premium includes.

Best Free QuillBot Alternatives

Spinbot is the best free QuillBot alternative if you want long rewrites with no account. It takes up to 10,000 characters, about 1,000 words, at once. The Ahrefs Paraphrasing Tool is the best free pick if you want to choose a tone, but it needs a free Ahrefs account.

2 Spinbot: Best for free rewrites with no sign-up

If you need a long free rewrite now, start here.

What it does well. Spinbot lets you paste in about 10 times more text than QuillBot’s free plan. You don’t need to make an account. You can tell it to leave capitalized words alone, so names and titles stay the same. You can also give it a list of words it should not touch.

Key features:

  • Up to 10,000 characters per rewrite
  • Standard, Random and Longest modes
  • Skip capitalized words or your own word list
  • Free grammar checker, summarizer and AI content detector

Pricing. Spinbot says its paraphrasing tool is completely free, with no account needed. Its homepage also mentions an “Advanced Paraphrase” option, but we found no price for it on the site. See Spinbot’s paraphrasing tool.

Best for: You, if you want to rewrite long text for free and don’t want to sign up for anything.

Limitations. Spinbot started as an article spinner, and its Longest mode swaps a lot of words. That can make text sound odd, so read every result before you use it. It has no browser extension or Word add-in listed, so you copy and paste.

3 Ahrefs Paraphrasing Tool: Best free pick with tone choice

If you want free rewrites in a set tone, try this.

What it does well. Its paraphraser lets you pick a writing tone, like Formal. It has a language menu and a setting to change the sentence structure. You can also ask for more than one version of your text.

Key features:

  • Writing tone menu, including Formal
  • Option to edit sentence structure
  • Choose how many versions you get
  • Language menu

Pricing. The tool is free. You need a free Ahrefs account to use it. Each run takes up to 2,048 characters. See the Ahrefs Paraphrasing Tool.

Best for: You, if you rewrite short pieces now and then and want to control the tone for free.

Limitations. The 2,048-character limit is only a few paragraphs. It is one free tool on a site that sells SEO software, so don’t expect plagiarism checks, summaries or apps. You also have to sign in.

Best QuillBot Alternative for Many Paraphrase Modes

Paraphraser.io is the best pick if you want lots of modes for little money. It lists 14 modes, including Formal, Academic, Shorten and Humanize. The free plan takes 400 words at a time. The Diamond plan costs $47.52 a year, less than half of QuillBot’s $99.95.

4 Paraphraser.io: Best for many modes on a small budget

If you like QuillBot’s modes but not its price, Paraphraser.io is the closest cheap match.

What it does well. Paraphraser.io works a lot like QuillBot. You paste text, pick a mode and get a new version. It lists 14 modes and works in more than 20 languages. You can freeze words you want to keep.

Key features:

  • 14 modes, from Word Changer to Academic
  • 20+ languages
  • Freeze words you want to keep
  • Text from images and screenshots
  • Plagiarism checks on paid plans

Pricing. The free plan paraphrases up to 400 words at a time. Silver is $4.55 a week, with 10,000 words and up to 1,500 words per paraphrase. Gold is $9.55 for 30 days, with 30,000 words and up to 2,000 per paraphrase. Diamond is $0.99 a week, billed as $47.52 a year, with 250,000 words and up to 3,000 per paraphrase. Weekly plans can’t be refunded. Monthly plans can be refunded within 10 days if most of the plan is unused. Discounted plans can’t be refunded. See Paraphraser.io pricing.

Best for: You, if you want QuillBot-style modes and plagiarism checks for the lowest yearly price.

Limitations. Every paid plan has a word cap, unlike QuillBot Premium’s unlimited paraphrasing. Diamond’s 250,000 words last a full year. That is about 20,800 words a month, less than Gold’s 30,000. The refund rules are also strict.

Best QuillBot Alternative If You Also Need a Grammar Checker

Grammarly is the best pick if you want rewrites and grammar checks in one tool. Its free paraphraser needs no sign-up and has six preset styles. Pro adds full-sentence rewrites, tone changes and plagiarism checks for $12 a month on yearly billing, or $30 a month on monthly billing.

5 Grammarly: Best for rewrites plus grammar checks

If you want one tool that fixes mistakes and rewrites sentences as you type, Grammarly covers both.

What it does well. Grammarly checks your writing in real time across the web. Its free paraphraser has six preset styles, and you can add your own tone and style notes. It works in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Italian. Pro rewrites full sentences with one click.

Key features:

  • Free paraphraser with six preset styles
  • Full-sentence rewrites on Pro
  • Tone changes with one click
  • Plagiarism and AI-text checks on Pro
  • 2,000 AI prompts per member each month on Pro

Pricing. The free plan includes 100 AI prompts a month. Pro is $30 a month on monthly billing, or $12 a month billed yearly ($144 a year). Pro has a 7-day free trial, and Grammarly emails you 2 days before it ends. Enterprise is priced by quote. See Grammarly pricing.

Best for: You, if you want grammar fixes and rewrites in the same place and you write in many apps.

Limitations. Pro costs more than QuillBot on both monthly and yearly billing. Grammarly is a grammar tool first, so it has no named paraphrase modes like QuillBot’s Academic or Formal. If you only need a paraphraser, it is more than you need.

Best QuillBot Alternative for Other Languages

LanguageTool is the best pick if you paraphrase in more than one language. Premium gives you unlimited paraphrasing in six languages and several kinds of English. The free plan allows 3 paraphrases a day on its website. Individual Premium prices did not load on its pricing page when we checked.

6 LanguageTool: Best for paraphrasing in other languages

If you write in more than one language, look here.

What it does well. LanguageTool is a grammar checker with a built-in rephrasing tool. You can make a sentence more formal, simpler, shorter or more fluent. Its paraphraser covers several English dialects, like US, UK and Australian English, plus other languages. Premium also checks up to 150,000 characters at once.

Key features:

  • Formal, simple, concise and fluent rewrites
  • Unlimited paraphrasing in six languages on Premium
  • US, UK, AU, NZ, CA and ZA English
  • Team dictionary and style guide

Pricing. The free plan gives you 3 paraphrases a day and checks up to 2,000 characters per text. Premium adds unlimited paraphrasing. Its pricing page lists monthly, quarterly, yearly and 2-year plans, but the individual prices did not display when we checked in October 2026. So we can’t confirm them. The Team plan is €56.90 per user per year, for up to 20 users. Every Premium plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee, and students and teachers can get up to 20% off. See LanguageTool pricing.

Best for: You, if you paraphrase in English and at least one other language.

Limitations. Since March 2026, the browser extension only works for Premium users. Free users can only use it on LanguageTool’s website (source). Three free paraphrases a day is a very small allowance. Check the final price at checkout.

Best AI Chatbots to Use Instead of QuillBot

ChatGPT and Claude are the best picks if you want rewrites that follow your own instructions, like “make this friendlier.” Both have free plans. ChatGPT Go costs $8 a month. Claude Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 a month on yearly billing.

7 ChatGPT: Best for rewrites that follow your instructions

If preset modes feel stiff, just tell ChatGPT what you want.

What it does well. Instead of picking a mode, you type what you want. You can ask for a version for a 10-year-old, a shorter one or one in a different tone. You can then tweak the result with follow-up requests.

Key features:

  • Rewrite with plain-language instructions
  • Follow-up edits in the same chat
  • File uploads, with limits on the free plan
  • Free plan with unlimited text chats, within usage rules

Pricing. The free plan costs $0. Go is $8 a month and adds more messages and uploads. Plus is $20 a month, and OpenAI says it does not offer yearly billing for Plus. Pro starts at $100 a month. Business is $20 per user per month billed yearly, or $25 billed monthly. See ChatGPT pricing.

Best for: You, if you want total control over how your text is rewritten and you would use a chatbot for other tasks too.

Limitations. It does not paraphrase inside Google Docs or Word as you type. There is no plagiarism checker. It can also change facts or add words you did not ask for, so compare the result with your original.

8 Claude: Best for long drafts and keeping your voice

If you rewrite long documents, Claude is worth a try.

What it does well. Like ChatGPT, Claude rewrites text based on what you tell it. You can paste a long draft, share a sample of your writing and ask it to match that style. You can then ask for changes one section at a time.

Key features:

  • Rewrite with plain-language instructions
  • Free web chat plan
  • Higher usage limits on Pro
  • Max plans with 5x or 20x Pro usage

Pricing. The free plan costs $0. Pro is $20 a month on monthly billing, or $17 a month on yearly billing ($200 paid up front). Max starts at $100 a month. Team seats start at $20 a month, billed yearly. Prices do not include tax. See Claude pricing.

Best for: You, if you rewrite long reports, essays or web pages and want a chatbot that follows detailed style notes.

Limitations. Like ChatGPT, it has no paraphrase modes, no plagiarism checker and no Word add-in listed on its pricing page. You copy text in and out. Always check the rewrite against your source.

Tools We Left Out, and Why

You will see these on other lists. Here is why they are not in our top 8.

  • WordAi. It is a strong article rewriter with a 3-day free trial and a 30-day money-back promise if you rewrite fewer than 10 articles. But its pricing page did not show any prices when we checked, so we could not confirm what it costs.
  • HIX.AI. Its pricing page showed a free plan with 20 credits, but the paid plan prices did not display.
  • Smodin. Its pricing page named Starter and Premium plans, but we could not see the prices, so we left it out.

What a Year of Paraphrasing Really Costs

For one person paying yearly, QuillBot Premium costs $99.95. Paraphraser.io Diamond costs $47.52, Wordtune Advanced $58.68 and Wordtune Unlimited $83.88. Claude Pro costs $200 and Grammarly Pro $144. On monthly billing, QuillBot comes to $239.40 a year. Spinbot and the Ahrefs tool cost nothing.

This math uses each tool’s listed price for one person over 12 months. It leaves out taxes and any promo prices. ChatGPT has no yearly plan for Go or Plus, so we used 12 monthly payments.

Tool and plan 1 year, paid yearly 1 year, paid monthly
QuillBot Premium $99.95 $239.40
Wordtune Advanced $58.68 $83.88
Wordtune Unlimited $83.88 $119.88
Paraphraser.io (Diamond / Gold) $47.52 $114.60
Grammarly Pro $144 $360
ChatGPT Go No yearly plan $96
Claude Pro $200 $240
Spinbot and Ahrefs tool $0 $0

How to Choose a QuillBot Alternative

Buyer's checklist for choosing QuillBot alternatives: test free plans, check word limits, pick modes or instructions, compare prices, read refunds.
  • Test with your real text. Paste a paragraph you actually need to rewrite into two or three free plans. Pick the one whose result needs the fewest fixes.
  • Check the word limit. Free limits range from 100 words on QuillBot to about 1,000 words on Spinbot. Paid plans can have caps too, like Paraphraser.io’s yearly word allowance.
  • Decide if you need modes or instructions. Mode-based tools like Paraphraser.io are fast. Chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude take more typing but follow detailed notes.
  • Compare monthly and yearly prices. QuillBot costs $239.40 a year on monthly billing but $99.95 on yearly billing. Only pay yearly once you know you like the tool.
  • Read the refund rules. LanguageTool gives 14 days to get your money back. Wordtune and QuillBot don’t offer standard refunds, so use the free plan or trial first.
  • Follow your school or work rules. Paraphrasing someone else’s work still needs a citation. Check what your school or client allows before you use any rewriter.

How We Evaluated These Tools

We compared each tool using its own pricing page, feature pages and help docs, checked in October 2026. We also read the top-ranking reviews of QuillBot alternatives to find what they got wrong or left out. We looked at price on monthly and yearly billing, free word limits, modes and tones, where each tool works, and refund rules. We did not run our own paraphrasing quality tests, and feature claims come from the vendors. No vendor pays to be listed. Read our editorial policy to learn more.

Is there anything better than QuillBot for paraphrasing?

It depends on what you need. Wordtune gives more natural sentence rewrites for less money. Paraphraser.io gives you more modes, 14 in all, for $47.52 a year. ChatGPT and Claude follow custom instructions. QuillBot is still strong if you want paraphrasing, summaries and plagiarism checks in one plan.

Is Wordtune better than QuillBot?

Wordtune is better for quick, natural sentence rewrites and costs less, from $4.89 a month on yearly billing. QuillBot is better if you need to paraphrase whole paragraphs, pick from 9 modes or check for plagiarism. QuillBot Premium costs $99.95 a year.

How much does QuillBot Premium cost?

QuillBot Premium costs $19.95 a month on monthly billing, $39.95 every 3 months, or $99.95 a year, which works out to $8.33 a month. Prices can change by region. The free plan paraphrases 100 words at a time in 2 modes.

Does QuillBot give refunds?

QuillBot’s help center says refunds are only issued if the law requires them. Buyers in the EU and UK have a 14-day right to withdraw. If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, you ask Apple or Google instead. So test the free plan before you pay.

Can I use ChatGPT instead of QuillBot?

Yes, for many jobs. You can paste text into ChatGPT and ask it to rewrite in any tone. The free plan works for this, and Go costs $8 a month. But ChatGPT has no paraphrase modes and no plagiarism checker, and it won’t rewrite inside Word as you type.

Is using a paraphrasing tool cheating?

Not by itself, but it can be. Rewording someone else’s ideas without credit is still plagiarism, even after a tool changes the words. Many schools have rules about AI tools. Always cite your sources, and check your school’s or employer’s rules before you use any paraphraser.
